College of Knowledge and Library Sciences

The College of Knowledge and Library Sciences investigates the process or systems of the accumulation and circulation of knowledge and information, through an understanding of humans, culture, society, and information technology.
 It also covers technologies that are included in these processes and are an important driving force of current social change.

Educational Objectives

The College aims to train not only specialists in planning or managing social activities for knowledge and information sharing, but also generalists who have the ability to use knowledge and information across a broad spectrum of domains in flexible and logical ways.

Prospective students

The College provides a curriculum in which the study of library and information science is integrated with information technology, social sciences, and the humanities.
 Under this curriculum, the College has great expectations for students with a strong desire to study humans, culture, society, and information technology in connection with the accumulation and circulation of knowledge and information.
 We will especially welcome students who have the ability to discover and solve problems while applying spontaneous judgment and analysis; and the basic academic abilities to support it.

International Exchange

Including this College, School of Informatics, University of Tsukuba is a member of the Consortium of iSchools in Asia Pacific (CiSAP). CiSAP is an association that belongs to iSchools (institutions of higher education providing the educational programs to train the specialists of library science and related fields.) in Asia-Pacific.
 Under the International internship program, several students visit overseas libraries and information centers every year, while international students visit this course to learn the Japanese library situation.
